with this assignment we where tasked to create our own lava monster from what we learned form the lesson (images below) using effects in Photoshop such as drop shadow and inner and outer glow
in the lesson we started by designing a simple lava trail using basic primary colors such as red orange and yellow then adding a inner glow effect it add a white blob within the yellow to make the image more striking and seem hot.
we then used what we learned to add to a image of a model ant turn that into a lava monster i mixed a high orange color with a strong yellow inner glow and a dark red outer glow and started to draw on the model to make it look like the creature seem to be made of molten rock.
using the reference images (top) i got some rough designs down in my sketch book which ranged from a more animalistic design to a full lava monster which was the one i chose to be my final design.
i started by drawing down a silhouette of the monster to get the shape down and because the base color was going to be black it was easier.
i then added some shade to give the monster a form and started to plan where i wanted to put the lava.
i then added the lave with an inner glow and outer and smudged the shading to make it more naturalistic. i was not happy with how this turned out. it needs a darker background to bring out the bright lava colors and the form of the monster was quite bland and could of been worked on.
